Dr. Benedict Okey Oramah has been the Executive Vice President in charge of Business Development and Corporate Banking at the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) since October 2008. In that position, he supervises the Business Development, Syndications, Specialized Finance and Investment Banking operations of the Bank. He also assists the President of the Bank in overseeing the Bank’s Research, Strategic Planning and International Cooperation activities.
Dr. Oramah joined Afreximbank in 1994 as a Chief Analyst, rising to the position of Senior Director, Planning and Business Development Department in 2007. Prior to that, he held the position of Assistant Manager (Research) at the Nigerian Export-Import Bank from 1992 to 1994.
Since 1995, he has been a regular speaker at UNCTAD’s Annual African Oil & Gas Conference and has been a regular resource person at major trade finance conferences across the world. Dr. Oramah is Chairperson of the Africa Chapter of the International Factors Group (IFG). He has written more than 30 articles dealing with a range of African economic and trade-related matters. His articles have appeared in leading international journals.
Dr. Oramah holds an M.Sc. and a Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics, obtained in 1987 and 1991 respectively, from the Obafemi, Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria. He also received a B.Sc. degree in Agricultural Economics from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria, in 1983.
