Minister of Energy and Mines, Nicaragua

Current Minister of Energy and Mines of the Republic of Nicaragua (since 2007), his work experience of over forty years began in the field of design and construction supervision of civil engineering works in the private sector. Later on he joined the public duty as Minister Director of the Nicaraguan Energy Institute (INE) from 1979 to 1995, and as Executive Chairman of the Nicaraguan Electricity Company (ENEL) since 1995 until 1997. As a Private Consultant, he has developed evaluative, technical and economic studies of electric projects with emphasis on hydropower. He was a teacher and executive member of prestigious universities in Nicaragua. With his experience and professionalism, he has contributed to the creation, coordination and application of strategic plans, standards and policies for the Nicaraguan energy sector, participating in projects that use local energy sources, in order to reduce reliance on fuel oil, and to increase the use of renewable energy resources, intended to change, in a medium and long term, the energy matrix of the country.
