Leigh Gallagher is an Assistant Managing Editor at Fortune magazine, where she edits feature stories on a variety of subjects and has responsibility for multi-platform Fortune editorial franchises including the “Best Companies to Work For,” the “40 Under 40” ranking of the most powerful young people in business, and Fortune’s lifestyle coverage. Leigh is a frequent speaker at Fortune and other business and economics conferences, including Fortune’s Most Powerful Women summit and Fortune’s Brainstorm TECH conferences; she also serves as co-chair of the Fortune Most Powerful Women/State Department Global Women’s Mentoring Partnership. Leigh is also a seasoned business news commentator, appearing regularly on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, CNBC’s Squawk Box, CNN’s Piers Morgan Tonight and Erin Burnett OutFront and a variety of other outlets; she can also be heard every other Friday on public radio’s Marketplace. She is currently at work on a book about the future of suburbia to be published by Portfolio in early 2013. Leigh was recently named a visiting scholar for the Business and Economic Reporting program at the Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute at New York University.

Before joining Fortune in 2007, Leigh was a senior editor at SmartMoney, where she edited the magazine’s consumer-oriented coverage and appeared regularly on morning television shows including the CBS Early Show, NBC’s Today and Fox News’ Cavuto on Business. Prior to SmartMoney, she worked for six years as a writer and reporter for Forbes. Leigh is a graduate of Cornell University and lives in New York.
