Director of Agribusiness and Trade, Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA)

Since 2002, Miguel Garcia-Winder has served as the Director for Agribusiness and Commercialization Program at the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA). In this position, he has been responsible for leading and coordinating hemispheric and global initiatives in diverse areas related to the development of competitive agribusiness with a special focus on the development of sustainable and innovative agribusiness models for the small and medium size producer and family agriculture, the development of new market organizations and entrepreneurial capacity building. In his work, he has placed particular emphasis on regional integration, strengthening of agri-food chains, the development of rural agroindustry and the formulation of trade policy. During the past two years, he has concentrated on developing meaningful and sustainable ways to link small farmers to markets as a way to increase their income and to contribute to food security in the region. In addition, he has also been successful in finding innovative agribusiness models to add value and improve competitiveness. The positive impact of these programs has been the result of the combined efforts of Dr. Garcia-Winder and his team of hemispheric professionals.
