Minister of Energy, Mozambique

Salvador Namburete serves as the Minister of Energy of Mozambique since 2005. Between 2000 and 2005, he served as Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade. Mr. Namburete has led delegations to WTO Ministerial meetings and to UNCTAD, the Conference of African Trade Ministers, Conference of Trade Ministers of Africa, Caribbean, and the Pacific, and the Steering Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation of the Organisation of Islamic Countries. Betwen 2007 and 2009, Minister Namburete chaired the Forum of Energy Ministers of Africa and since 2010, he chairs the Conference of Energy Ministers of Africa, established under the aegis of the African Union Commission. He has previously served as Economic Counsellor at Mozambique's diplomatic missions in Washington D.C., New York, Brussels, and Geneva. Mr. Namburete has also served on the boards of several private companies in the trade sector. Mr. Namburete holds a Master's degree in International Trade and Finance from Lancaster University (UK), a Master's in Corporate Finance from American University (USA). He earned his Bachelor in Economics at the Eduardo Mondiane University (Mozambique). Mr. Namburete has published two books and a number of scholarly articles on macroeconomic issues facing Mozambique and other African economies.
